Skilled Migration

The general skilled migration programme (GSM) is aimed at boosting the Australian economy.  The programme targets overseas people who possess the necessary skills in a particular occupation required in Australia.

Applicants need to be over 18 and under 45 years old, have good English and recent work experience or have recently completed an Australian qualification.  The majority of GSM visas require the applicant to pass a points test.  However, if the applicant does not meet the points test requirement, the applicant may consider applying for a regional sponsored visa.

There are a number of different GSM visas, the popular ones are the skilled (independent) migration visa (subclass 175), skilled (sponsored) migration visa (subclass 176), skilled (independent) residence (subclass 885) and skilled (sponsored) residence (subclass 886), which are all for permanent residence (PR) visas.
